Cristiano Ronaldo’s anger certainly boiled over in Portugal’s draw with Serbia at the weekend.
The forward was denied a stoppage time winner when the officials didn’t deem his effort to have crossed the line.
Ronaldo could not contain himself as he lamented the decision and confronted the assistant referee.
It earned him a yellow card and he then threw his captains armband down in frustration and trudged off.
Portugal have since received an apology, but it will have come too little too late for Ronaldo.
His show of emotion was not the first time he has cut an angry figure however. We take a look at some past instances where Ronaldo lost it.
Manchester derby 2009
Ronaldo’s days as a Manchester United player were coming to an end – he would leave that summer.
He grabbed one of his side’s two as they beat their rivals 2-0 at Old Trafford but was subbed off on 58 minutes.
United remained in contention for the Champions League and Sir Alex Ferguson clearly felt Ronaldo could do with a rest.
The player though was chasing the Golden Boot and upon his early exit snatched his training jacket before sulking on the bench.
Portugal vs Spain 2010
Ronaldo thought he’d scored one of his greatest goals against his country’s bitter rivals.
The forward scythed through the Spanish defence before chipping the ball over Iker Casillas.
It was destined for the back of the net but Nani decided to nip in and get the final touch.
One problem: He was offside. The goal wasn’t given and Ronaldo couldn’t hide his anger.
Real Madrid vs Barcelona 2011
The Catalan kings came to the Bernabeu for the first-leg of a Champions League semi-final.
Pep Guardiola’s side were always going to dominate possession, it didn’t sit well with Ronaldo though.
He pressed the Barcelona defence but they simply played round him before advancing up the pitch.
Ronaldo was fuming when he saw that none of his team-mates had pressed with him and made his frustration known.
Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid 2014
Clearly sick of being kicked and fouled all game, Ronaldo retaliated.
Bilbao had just equalised minutes before the Portuguese star took issue with a foul and then raised his hands when confronted by Ander Iturraspe.
Ronaldo was sent-off for the incident while the Bilbao star escaped with a yellow card.
Madrid would go on to drop points in a year that Atletico Madrid claimed the title on the final day.
Valencia vs Juventus 2018
The forward was left in tears on this Champions League night three years ago at the Mestalla.
He was sent-off after pulling Jeison Murillo’s hair, although the dismissal was later rescinded.
Ronaldo’s emotion boiled over, although it wasn’t clear why.
In all probability it was because a red card and subsequent suspension would’ve ruled him out of games against former club United.
Serbia vs Portugal 2021
The latest episode in what is a long line of angry Ronaldo moments.
Admittedly he had more than enough reason to be frustrated on this occasion.
Rarely will a player have gone from a high to a low so quickly, but Ronaldo’s reaction was always going to get him in trouble.
An apology will have done little for man who is obsessed with scoring and grabbing the limelight.
