FC Barcelona – La Liga Luis F. Rojo gives his opinion
It was one of Johan Cruyff‘s maxims. When the big teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid play well, they always win because their quality wins out over their opponents. The problem comes when they don’t play well. Those are the games you have to win no matter what, because throughout the course of the league season there are many of them.
Barcelona had a match to forget on Monday night, especially in the first half. They didn’t defend well, didn’t find space in attack and fired shots time and again into Jordi Masip‘s arms. The team improved in the second half, but only in dribs and drabs. The game was getting really ugly until Oscar Plano‘s sending off paved the way. And Ousmane Dembele scored just shy of second-half stoppage time.
Barcelona secured the three points on a bad day. And that has great value. If Monday’s win was a parenthesis in the great run of 2021, nothing will have happened. Not every game can be played well, but with a performance like that against Real Madrid, not only will they not win the game but it will complicate their chances of becoming champions.
At the moment, they are still depending on themselves and this is a fundamental factor. There are no league titles without a good dose of suffering. And luck. On Monday night, Barcelona also had the necessary luck to be champions.
