FC Barcelona – La Liga: The day Depay turned up to Manchester United reserves’ training in a Rolls Royce and wearing a cowboy hat

Memphis Depay’s time at Manchester United is probably something he’d rather forget.

There were high expectations Dutch star arrived from PSV Eindhoven, but things didn’t work out how both parties would have liked.

Depay hardly featured for Manchester United and there were some difficult moments during his time at the Red Devils which his ex-teammate Wayne Rooney has recently spoken about.

On Boxing Day in 2015, Stoke City turned over Manchester United, and Depay’s poor header back to goalkeeper David de Gea allowed Glen Johnson to play in Bojan Krkic for the first goal. Head coach Louis van Gaal was furious with the forward, taking him off at half-time and ordering him to play with the reserves the next day.

Rooney gave Memphis some advice about playing with the reserve side.

“Look, it’s a bit difficult,” Rooney told him.

“Just don’t come in with all your fancy stuff.”

Memphis, however didn’t follow Rooney‘s advice.

“He turned up for the reserve game in his Rolls Royce, wearing a leather jacket and a cowboy hat,” Rooney added.

The new Barcelona forward has always been known for his self-belief and confidence, and that is what has taken him so far in the game.

He’s performing well in this summer’s European Championship and will be stepping out at the Camp Nou for the first time in the coming months.
