Costa Rica: Costa Rican courts acquit ex-FEDEFUTBOL officials in Keylor Navas case

The case involving Keylor Navas has come to a complicated end.

Former Costa Rica Football Federation (FEDEFUTBOL) officials Adrian Gutierrez and Juan Carlos Roman were acquitted criminally having been accused of defamation.

They will, though, have to pay a total of around four million euros to each player – Keylor, Bryan Ruiz and Celso Borges – for moral damage. That sum is a long way from the near 40 million euros being sought.

It had been alleged that the players were willing to deliberately lose three games in order to see coach Jose Luis Pinto sacked, with there reportedly being a clause in his contract that would have allowed for that to happen.
