With LaLiga Santander hitting the pause button ahead of the World Cup, Barcelona president Joan Laporta says he is pleased with the team’s campaign so far.
All eyes are firmly set on winning the league title and the president found time to praise the team’s new signings, especially Robert Lewandowski, after a tough win over Osasuna during the week.
“In Pamplona, the team showed that they have the makings of a champion, that they have the character to overcome adversity and that they want to win this league,” he told Sport.
“[Champions League elimination] was a hard blow, but the objective is LaLiga Santander and we want to continue on the right track.
“We are doing very well. We can fight for the title.”
Laporta also praised Xavi and affirmed that never had doubts over the coach.
“I can assure you that we are very proud of the coach we have,” Laporta said.
“He is a coach who knows the club very well, who knows what things are like. In addition, he knows how to share what can be improved.”

Laporta also analysed the performance of the players that joined Barcelona this season.
“The addition of Lewandowski has been fundamental,” Laporta stated.
“He has the gift of scoring goals and the ability to always link up with his teammates, to give good advice.
“He is a serious, responsible man, who gives us a very good image.
“Improving on what we have is not easy, especially considering that we still have financial fair play problems due to the elimination from the Champions League, which has reduced our budgeted income.
“LaLiga has already warned us that we will have reduced chances to sign players.”
