Portugal were gifted a winning start to their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign by Azerbaijan goalkeeper Shahrudin Mahammadaliyev.
The home side took the lead against Azerbaijan in comical circumstances as Mahammadaliyev punched a cross against captain Maksim Medvedev and in to his own net in the 37th minute.
Portugal’s start-studded side had 28 attempts on goal but they could not find a way past Mahammadaliyev.
