GdS: Ibrahimovic remains on the bench during Atalanta win

Zlatan Ibrahimovic did not even play a single minute of the game against Atalanta thus denying him a potential home farewell, with his future increasingly uncertain.

La Gazzetta dello Sport recall how the cameras often panned to the Swede during and after the game as he celebrated with the team but he has not been well for several weeks, struggling with a knee that continues to affect him.

It is an overload attributable to wear and tear and a leg, which in recent years has experienced a lot of joint and muscle problems. Since coming back from his most recent absence, the maximum he played was 23 minutes against Fiorentina.

The Atalanta game could potentially be Ibra’s last at San Siro and, in the context of a victory that delivered a large slice of the Scudetto to Milan, it was a shame not to see him come on even for a minute.

Ibrahimovic cannot continue with things as they are now, and some kind of intervention may be needed once the season draws to a close, though some conservative therapy could be enough.

Sunday afternoon a few metres from him at San Siro were his wife Helena and second son Vincent as Zlatan celebrated the victory over La Dea. Now, we wait and see if it truly was his swansong.
