AJAX wonderkid Noah Gesser has tragically died.
The talented 16-year-old was involved in a serious car accident on Friday evening in Utrecht, a club spokesman has confirmed.
Gesser was travelling with his 18-year-old brother when their vehicle collided with a taxi on the United Nations Road in IJsselstein, the club have confirmed.
Police have said the victims were both 16 and 18, were from IJsselstein and part of the same family, but stopped short in identifying their names.
The driver of the taxi was taken to hospital as a precaution but his injuries are not thought to be serious.
Ajax said on Twitter: “Ajax is deeply touched by the tragic death of youth player Noah Gesser.
“Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and relatives.”
They announced that the terrible news would be discussed among the first team and youth team at training.
Ajax also said a minute’s silence would be held prior to practice matches, players will wear black armbands and flags would be flown at half-mast.
They added: “Ajax is deeply moved by this tragic event. The club wishes the loved ones of Gesser all the strength to deal with this immense loss.”
The Secret Scout reacted to the news on Twitter, writing: “Tragic news coming out of Holland of 16 year old Noah Gesser sadly passing away.
“Thoughts are with his Family, friends and teammates at Ajax. Rest in Peace”
Gesser was seen as a huge talent at Ajax and was recently promoted to the U17 squad.
He signed for the Dutch giants from amateur side Alphense Boys in 2018, before starring at youth level.
Last season, he scored 13 goals in just six games for Ajax’s U16 team.
