AFLW, Kiara Bowers suspension, best and fairest, odds, video, dangerous tackle, Fremantle vs Adelaide

Fremantle star Kiara Bowers’ AFLW best-and-fairest chances remain alive after the midfielder’s one-match ban was successfully downgraded to a $400 fine at the Tribunal.

Bowers was charged with rough conduct for a dangerous tackle against Melbourne’s Eden Zanker, with the initial grading careless conduct, medium impact and high contact.

On Tuesday night, Fremantle successfully argued ‘medium’ impact down to ‘low’, meaning Bowers can take on North Melbourne this Saturday and remains eligible for the league’s best and fairest award that she is a clear favourite to win.

Bowers has put together an extraordinary season so far, currently sitting on 57 votes in the AFLW Coaches Association’s award tally, ahead by eight votes over Collingwood’s Brittany Bonnici and North Melbourne’s Jasmine Garner.

Three weeks ago, Bowers escaped with only a reprimand for tripping Brisbane’s Jessica Wuetschner, while in Round 3 she accepted a reprimand for a dangerous tackle against Adelaide’s Anne Hatchard.

Since her tackle of Zanker was the second instance of the dangerous tackle for Bowers, she was handed a fine.
