Teams

Caretaker manager Robert Page has named his 26-man squad ahead of the competition, as expected no individuals from Wales’ top flight make the list, with the 46-year-old naming a mix of experience and youth.

Page, who has been in charge of the nation since November last year, has guided the Dragons to the top of their Nations League group.

Amongst the 26 players selected by the Welshman, familiar names such as all-time leading appearance holder Chris Gunter makes the squad, as well as Joe Allen and Johnny Williams.

Switzerland on the other hand have never made it past the round of 16 in the tournament. Their most recent performance at Euro 2016, saw them bow out to Poland after a 5-4 loss on penalties.

The Swiss, who are managed by Vladimir Petković , have numerous individuals with tournament and international experience at their disposal.

Their squad is heavily dominated by non-Swiss based players, with only four individuals playing in the nation.

Petković will be looking to the likes of Granit Xhaka, Xherdan Shaqiri and Ricardo Rodríguez to name a few, to steer the nation past the last 16 and hopefully to their best-placed finish in the competition.

Switzerland have named 19-year-old Bećir Omeragić in their squad. The defender plays for FC Zurich in the nation’s top flight, making 29 appearances in the league last season.

He has also represented his nation at youth level from U15-17.

Form guide

Before they meet in their first game of the competition, both nations have the opportunity to assess their squads, with Wales losing 3-0 to France on June 2nd, before drawing 0-0 with Albania three days later.

Switzerland took on Lichtenstein on June 3rd, beating the 186th ranked nation 7-0. Mario Gavranović bagged a hat-trick on the night.

How each team will line-up for the match will be interesting to see. The Swiss have played with both a 3-4-2-1 and 3-4-1-2 formation as of late, but it’s the latter that Petković seems to prefer.

Wales also prefer lining-up with three centre-backs, with Page predominantly opting for a 3-4-3 formation while in charge of the Dragons.
