Police called over photos of Wayne Rooney ‘asleep’ next to scantily clad woman


Police have been called in after embarrassing photos of Wayne Rooney on a night out were shared on social media.

One of the images shows Rooney, 35, fast asleep on a chair with a scantily clad woman lying on a bed in the background.

The former Manchester United striker apparently fell asleep upright with his chin on his chest and hands in his pockets.

Two wine glasses and several empty bottles can be seen underneath the chair.

A video clip of another girl apparently breaking wind near the Derby County manager has also been viewed over 175,000 times.

In another snap dad-of-four Rooney is awake and clutching a half-full wine glass with blood and scratches clearly visible on his knuckles.

The Mirror understands the photos have been reported to Greater Manchester Police as a possible crime.

The images and videos surfaced on Twitter on Sunday morning after being shared amongst fans groups on WhatsApp.

One apparently shows Rooney, England’s all-time top scorer with 53 goals, chatting to a mystery girl in a dark nightclub.

In another pic – captioned “no words no papz” – he is gesticulating with his right hand while holding a glass of wine in his left.

Every other picture or video shows Rooney asleep on a wooden chair.

One snap titled “Sleepy wayne” features a blonde woman posing beside him with her tongue out while making the peace sign.

In the background another woman, wearing a skimpy white dress, is lying full length on a bed.

Sunlight streams through a gap in the curtains, suggesting the pic was taken during the day.

In another image, a woman wearing a thong with her skirt around her knees poses just inches from Rooney’s head.

This shot is captioned “Mooney Rooney”.

Another peace sign selfie showing Rooney asleep bears the words “X for looks off me n Rooney”.

The former England Captain is wearing a black hooded top and black jeans in all the photos.

There is no suggestion proud family man Rooney did anything untoward or behaved inappropriately.

A timestamp shows “8.30” but it is unclear whether the pictures were taken in the morning, evening or on what date.

It is also not yet known whether Rooney was in a hotel or visiting a private address.

The women in the pictures are understood to come from in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, which is around a two-hour drive from his home.

The former England captain has family links with the area through younger brother John Rooney, 31, who played for Barrow AFC for two seasons.

Rooney’s agent Paul Stretford yesterday refused to comment on the social media photos.

Instead he directed calls to reputation PR expert Ian Monk, who provides crisis management to celebs and other high profile clients.

Rooney took over as Derby County manager last year and only escaped relegation from the Championship by one place.

His team is currently struggling for form and lost 2-1 to League Two side Salford City on Saturday.

In an interview after the game he said: “All I can do is try to bring some dignity and pride back to this club.

“If I am being honest, it would be easy for a manager in my situation to walk away.

“It’s a challenge for me, I’m a fighter…I will do everything I can to get the club through this.”
