Mo Salah set to meet rival Sergio Ramos at Tokyo Olympics with Egypt and Spain due to pick pair as over aged players

MO SALAH may face his nemesis Sergio Ramos this summer – three years after that infamous Champions League final incident.

Egypt bosses want to select the Liverpool striker, 28, for the Tokyo Olympics as one of their three over-aged players – much to the annoyance of Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.

While the Pharaohs under-23s squad has not been announced yet, Salah is the main man they want for the Games between July 23 and August 8.

And SunSport now understands that Luis de la Fuente, the Spanish Olympic chief, plans to select the Real Madrid captain, 35, provided he is fully fit following a recent calf injury.

Egypt and Spain are in the same group and the fixture in Sapporo on Thursday July 22 would potentially bring the pair together in contest.

They clashed in the 2018 Champions League final in Kiev which resulted in Salah being subbed off after injuring his arm in a tangle with Ramos as Madrid lifted the Cup.

Fuente said: “We are waiting for Ramos to recover from his injury.

“If he recovers from the injury and is in a perfect physical condition, he would join us.

“Salah participation would be great news for Egypt who have very good players too.”

Argentina and Australia are the other nations in Group C but anyone hoping to see Lionel Messi make a dramatic appearance will be left disappointed.

According to Argies boss Fernando Batista, the Barcelona superstar will not be jeopardising his club’s pre-season for a trip to the Far East.

Batista said: “Messi will play with Argentina in Copa America this summer and I don’t think he will be free to join us.

“I didn’t add his name to the squad I sent to Fifa. Why would Messi participate with us after he won the Olympics in 2008? If he wants to join us, then it’s his decision.”
