Vinicius, Valverde, Rodrygo and Camavinga: Real Madrid’s pride on the world stage

Fede Valverde, Vinicius, Rodrygo and Eduardo Camavinga are the pride of Real Madrid. The club is used to having a lot of representation at the World Cup, but these four players are making things extra special.

They are at the world’s biggest football tournament after betting on them as youngsters. They have become stars at Valdebebas. Their presence in Qatar is the culmination of many years of work and the confirmation that the expectations placed on them have been met. They arrived as promising young players (with the exception of Camavinga, all of them came through the Castilla team) and they are already World Cup players.

Their presence in Qatar confirms they are stars at Real Madrid. Valverde, Vinicius, Rodrygo and Camavinga represent the successful generational change that is taking place at Real Madrid. With the added merit of making a place for themselves in three historic and top-level national teams such as Brazil, France and Uruguay.

Vinicius

Madrid didn’t think twice about paying 45 million euros for a 16-year-old who was turning Flamengo upside down. They made an investment that matched the talent the young Brazilian exuded. He joined in the 2018/19 season and went on to play five games for Castilla before establishing himself in the first team. Last season he established himself as a star for Real Madrid, scoring 22 goals, including the goal that landed Madrid their 14th European Cup. Not only has he been a regular for Brazil for some time, but he has started at the World Cup despite tremendous competition in attack. One fact about his growth: he is the most valuable player in Brazil’s squad with a market value of 120 million euros.

Fede Valverde

Madrid snapped up the 16-year-old Uruguayan who was making a name for himself at Penarol. They paid five million euros and signed him for Castilla in the 2016/17 season, when he was already 18 years old. He played 30 games under Solari’s orders at the club and also played in the Youth League. He continued his development by joining Deportivo on loan and in the 2018/19 season, Lopetegui decided to keep Fede as he saw huge potential in him, and his intuition did not fail him.

Valverde found it hard to establish himself at first, among other things because he had Casemiro, Kroos and Modric in front of him, but last season was his breakout campaign, which has carried over to current one with his eight goals and four assists. He is a ‘starter’ for Madrid and Uruguay, and aims to be a future ‘boss’ in both teams. He has a market value of 100 million euros.

Rodrygo

Shortly after the signing of Vinicius, Real Madrid carried out an identical deal for Rodrygo. Another Brazilian that Madrid wanted to secure and made a similar investment for, about 45 million. He arrived at the age of 18 in 2019. In September he played with Castilla and in November he scored a hat-trick in the Champions League. Like Vinicius, he exploded last season after being the hero in a few Champions League comebacks and undisputed star of the Fourteenth. Ancelotti already sees him as a starter and Tite has not hesitated to take him to the World Cup despite all the artillery that Brazil has in attack. His market value already stands at 80 million euros.

Camavinga

Camavinga is the latest prized asset, a new face that arrived at 18 years of age after another strong investment. In a season and a half he has demonstrated his talent and has won a place at the World Cup at the death, taking advantage of the injury woes Deschamps has to deal with. While he’s had less of an impact thus far, he is projected to be just as important as Valverde, Vini and Rodrygo. His market value is 50 million.
