Valbuena sex tape trial sentencing confirmed for November 24

Karim Benzema could face 10 months in prison and a 75,000 euro fine should the prosecution be successful in their case over the Mathieu Valbuena sex tape trial.

On Friday, the judge opted to delay sentencing to November, when the Real Madrid forward will discover his fate.

Sentencing on November 24

Sentencing for the case will be confirmed on November 24, as the judge delayed his decision given that three court sessions had already been completed.

Real Madrid will face Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League on that same day in the fifth fixture of the Champions League group stage.

Benzema’s defence want acquittal

Lawyers representing Benzema requested that he was acquitted, while also attacking Valbuena himself.

“Valbuena is a victim of his acts, given that it was he himself who filmed the sex tape with which they later tried to blackmail him,” the defence team argued.

“He isn’t filmed without knowing, he films himself in selfie mode. The young girl doesn’t know she’s being filmed, filming someone without knowing it during a sexual act is criminally reprehensible.”

Clean disciplinary record used in his favour

“No-one has worried about this woman, not even the investigators,” insisted defence lawyer Sylvian Cormier.

“From the first moment of the accusation, they wanted to down a star and that’s why they took it to the media from the start.

Benzema has only been shown a yellow card three times in his career, he’s only played for two clubs, and he still pays taxes in France.

“He has a personality that makes him how he is, you tell me why he’d get involved in a criminal gang.”
