Goals from Toni Kroos and Marco Asensio earned Real Madrid a 2-0 win over Internazionale at the Bernabeu on Tuesday which confirmed their position as Group D winners.

Kroos gave the hosts the lead on 17 minutes as his effort swept past Samir Handanovic.

Inter, who qualified for the Champions League knockout stages for the first team since 2011 in their previous match were unable to get themselves back into the match and their task was made harder on 64 minutes when they were reduced to 10 men.

Eder Militao body checked the Italy international towards the advertising hoardings as the par fought for the ball and a grounded Barella aimed a punch and his opponents knee, leaving Felix Brych with no option but to issue a red card.

Inter’s misery was compounded 15 minutes later when Asensio added a second.
