The French centre-back will therefore be at Zinedine Zidane‘s disposal for this Saturday’s potential title decider at home to Villarreal (18:00 CEST). Atletico Madrid, who have a two-point lead at the top, will be playing at the exact same time away at Real Valladolid.
Sergio Ramos is hoping to be back in time for the Villarreal match, but he has to do some more work in order to convince Zidane.
The Real Madrid captain trained alone on the pitches and inside the facilities on Wednesday, so Thursday will be key if he is to feature against the Yellow Submarine.
Both Varane and Ramos‘ futures at Real Madrid are uncertain, with the former having one year left to run on his deal while the captain’s deal is set to expire on June 30.
Los Blancos plan to either extend Varane‘s contract or put him up for sale, but there is still no news on Ramos.
Zidane will have to decide if he wants to tweak his formation in order to bring Varane or, if he is available, Ramos back into the XI.
Yet, the partnership of Eder Militao and Nacho Fernandez has been so good in the heart of defence that the Real Madrid boss will have to think long and hard about bringing either of his usual first-choice centre-backs back into the side.
