Manchester United have a chance to sign the “best young player in the world”, according to his agent.
Eduardo Camavinga has been on the Red Devils’ radar ever since he burst onto the scene at Rennes.
But the 18-year-old midfielder has attracted attention from a number of top clubs, including his preferred destination Real Madrid.
Camavinga likes the idea of linking up with compatriot Zinedine Zidane in Spain.
The Frenchman has just one year remaining on his contract with Rennes and the Ligue 1 side are expected to cash in on the midfielder in this summer’s transfer window.
But this is where things get interesting.
Zidane is under increasing pressure to win a trophy this season with Real Madrid six points adrift of leaders Atletico Madrid in La Liga and out of the Copa del Rey.
If he doesn’t lead Los Blancos to Champions League glory then he could be sacked in line with the club’s unwritten rule that sees manager’s dismissed if they fail to win silverware.
This eventuality would suddenly make Real Madrid a less attractive proposition for Camavinga, and Manchester United could swoop.
Camavinga’s agent Jonathan Barnett has given clubs the green light to make offers in the summer window.
And he has tipped Camavinga to complete a potentially record-breaking transfer at the end of the season, regardless of what happens at Real Madrid.
“It is going to be harder. I’m expecting three or four very big deals of my own that will break a lot of records,” Barnett told the Athletic.
“Hopefully, they’ll come about. For the smaller clubs, I think there won’t be as many transfers. We have some very good players.
“We have probably the best young player in the world in Camavinga. We’ve got Grealish. We’ve got Konate at Leipzig. But then I’ve got over 100 players.”
