Karim Benzema‘s case for winning the Pichichi trophy this season strengthened on Saturday with two goals against Elche.
The Real Madrid striker has now scored 15 goals in LaLiga Santander this campaign, which puts him within four of top scorer Lionel Messi on 19.
Benzema sits in third place in the Pichichi standings alongside Gerard Moreno of Villarreal, with Luis Suarez in second on 18 goals.
Youssef En-Nesyri also threw his hat into the ring, moving on to 14 goals for the season with the winner against Real Betis on Sunday.
Like the Sevilla forward, Benzema hasn’t scored a single penalty this season in LaLiga Santander, whereas Messi and Suarez have converted three each. Gerard has scored six spot kicks.
