Good news for Real Madrid: Courtois’ injury isn’t serious

Thibaut Courtois underwent tests on Monday morning after missing out on Real Madrid’s game against Real Mallorca on Sunday and the good news for Los Blancos is that his injury is not serious.

This means that he is not ruled out for the Club World Cup final, if Real Madrid make it past the semi-final, but his participation will depend on how he evolves in the coming days.

The Belgian goalkeeper will not feature in the semi-final, as he won’t travel to Rabat with the rest of him teammates on Monday afternoon.

However, he could join them on Thursday or Friday if he manages to recover in time and Real Madrid make it to the final.

Carlo Ancelotti‘s men will fly to Morocco at 19:00 CET. Their semi-final against Al Ahly will take place on Wednesday, February 8, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Courtois’ injury in the warm-up

Courtois felt discomfort during the warm-up that Real Madrid‘s starters were carrying out on the Son Moix turf before Sunday’s duel against Real Mallorca.

He immediately informed the goalkeeping coach, Luis Llopis, and the medical staff. Together they decided that he was not going to force himself after feeling discomfort in the abductor of his left leg.

Ancelotti and his staff made this decision due to Real Madrid‘s congested calendar in February. Los Blancos could potentially play eight matches in four different competitions, including four in LaLiga Santander, two in the Club World Cup, one in the Copa del Rey and one for the Champions League.

Real Madrid informed the officials that Andriy Lunin would fill in for Courtois against Real Mallorca, who beat Los Blancos 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
