Wednesday was a special day for Luka Modric. The Croatian received the MARCA Leyenda award, the highest handed out by Diario MARCA under Juan Ignacio Gallardo.
During the day, MARCA collected testimonies from people who know Modric well and who analysed this incredible period of the Croatian’s career.
“Real Madrid have had players of great quality,” said Ruben De La Red. “It’s difficult to evaluate eras.
“Luka Modric, Casemiro, and Toni Kroos will be remembered for many years to come.”
Others followed, and Paco Buyo had his say on the ageing midfield maestro as well.
“He has distinguished himself for his class and for the great team spirit he has shown,” Buyo said.
“He is a great player in the history of Real Madrid. For his talent and ability, Luka Modric is on par with the greatest players in the history of Real Madrid.”
MARCA’s own Emilio Contreras had his say, as did Jose Manuel Puertas.
“I didn’t expect the performance Modric has had at Real Madrid,” Contreras said. “He is among the best midfielders of this century.”
“Modric, among other things, is an example of self-improvement,” Puertas added. “He is the driving force behind Real Madrid.”
