Marco Asensio is one of the seven Real Madrid players whose contracts expire on June 30, 2023, and all these footballers have entered into talks about their future at the club.
The professionalism demonstrated by all of them is beyond doubt, as is Carlo Ancelotti‘s confidence in them.
Each case is different, as they have little to do with each other. With Asensio, he has attracted interest from several clubs, but his desire is to continue fulfilling his childhood dream of playing for Real Madrid.
As much as Asensio wants to continue playing for the club, there have been some complicated situations.
Real Madrid‘s directors have already made him an offer. Others clubs have approached his agent, Jorge Mendes, who listens to all offers but knows that Asensio‘s priority is to stay at Los Blancos.
There should be more news about his future in the next two or three weeks and it’s not just about money.
Asensio wants to feel that he is an important player for Ancelotti and his salary demands are secondary.
In the next meeting with Real Madrid‘s directors, he will discuss his role in the team and not the figure featuring in his contract.
Real Madrid are aware that each player’s case is different and Asensio‘s is a special one because of his ability to find the back of the net, his powerful strikes and the fact he is just 27 years of age.
More than just a simple contract extension
Asensio has managed to turn the situation around. Back in the summer, everything indicated that he may leave the team. However, Ancelotti placed his confidence in him and Florentino Perez‘s affectionate gesture before the end of the year has resulted in a contract extension offer.
Being a starter at San Mames and part of Ancelotti‘s plans lately will help him make a final decision in the next couple of weeks.
Asensio has participated in 12 league games but has only had three starts, having played a total of 319 minutes, scored one goal and distributed three assists.
He has also appeared in three Copa del Rey games (160 minutes on the pitch), while he has participated in the six Champions League games (two goals and one assist with two starts) and in two Supercopa de Espana games. That’s more than he may have expected back in the summer.
Ancelotti opened the door for Asensio to stay at Real Madrid and the Spain international didn’t give up, demonstrating that he can contribute to the team and that he wants to take a step forward. This is why he wants to renew his contract with Los Blancos.
