Ancelotti on biennial World Cup: Well, while we’re at it, let’s just play one every year

Carlo Ancelotti sarcastically stated that FIFA may as well just host a World Cup every season, after football’s governing body revealed plans for the major tournament to be played every two years.

The Italian also gave his thoughts on other areas involving his job, particularly his start to life back at Real Madrid.

“I am living my honeymoon at Real Madrid. I hope to stay for many years,” he told Rai Radio.

“Like everyone else, we started with some difficulties, but we have a great spirit and we managed to make corrections during the games based on our character.”

Despite the departures of stars such as Sergio Ramos and Leo Messi, Ancelotti believes LaLiga Santander will be just fine.

“LaLiga lost great players [in the summer], but there are others who are coming through now,” he said.

“One of them is our very own Vinicius. We are very encouraged and we have started the season well.”

Then Ancelotti gave his views on a World Cup being held every two years.

“Play the World Cup every two years? Well, while we’re at it, let’s just play one a year,” he said sarcastically.

“The schedules are a very serious problem. Something has to change. There are games that make little sense.

“FIFA and UEFA should talk about it. It is true that at this moment perhaps they do not agree with each other much, but the pressure on the players is too high.”

Ancelotti believes that Serie A is more open than ever this season, and hailed the return of Jose Mourinho to Italian football.

“It is a place suitable for his character, I have always said that,” Ancelotti said of Mourinho.

“I immediately thought that it was the right place for him, and in the end it will be.

“I really hope that Roma can win with Mou, and I expect the same from Milan, because they are two teams which I am very attached to.”
