Manchester United consider £100m summer swoop for Victor Osimhen or Harry Kane – Paper Round

United weigh up striking options

Manchester United may keep Wout Weghorst beyond the end of the season according to earlier reports, but the Telegraph states that they still intend to bring in a new, high-profile forward for next season. While Harry Kane is one option, a deal for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen may be preferred.

“Erik ten Hag is facing a £100 million striker dilemma at Manchester United this summer as he weighs up whether to move for Tottenham’s Harry Kane or Napoli’s rising star Victor Osimhen,” relays the report.

‘A GOAT in this league’ – Kane hailed by stand-in Spurs boss Stellini after landmark goal

“Signing a top striker is United’s priority and Ten Hag must decide whether to go for a Premier League proven shorter-term fix in Kane – and with it a virtual guarantee of goals – or take a calculated gamble on Osimhen developing into a world-beater for years to come.

“Old Trafford sources have indicated that Osimhen better fits Ten Hag’s profile of wanting a more mobile striker who offers pace, strength and pressing, as well as goals. Ten Hag has watched extensive footage of Osimhen since last summer and, while there are elements of the striker’s game the Dutchman is unsure about and he has had injury problems, it has been noted that his improvement has continued to gather pace this season.”

Qataris set to make United bid

As well as planning for movement in the summer, there could be a new owner at Old Trafford in the coming months, as the Mirror states that a group of Qatari investors could be ready to step up to purchase the club from the Glazers.

The paper writes: “A group of Qatari investors are expected to launch a blockbuster takeover bid for Manchester United ‘in days’, according to reports, and are ready to provide Erik ten Hag with significant financial backing to take the club back to the top.

“The report goes on to outline that the group would have no problem meeting the Glazers’ demands, which are estimated to exceed £6billion. As well as backing Ten Hag in the transfer market, the investors are also planning to make fan engagement an integral part of their bid and they may decide to consult with United fans over the future of Old Trafford, which is in desperate need of renovations or a redevelopment costing up to £2bn.

“It is claimed that the interested party is made up of individual Qatari investors who are ready to use the knowledge they gained from hosting last year’s World Cup to drive a new project at a club they view as ‘football’s crown jewels’.”

Inter may propose Dumfries swap for Chalobah

Trevoh Chalobah is a target for Inter Milan this summer, as they look to replace Milan Skriniar. The Sun believes that they will offer 26-year-old Dutch international Denzel Dumfries in exchange for the English defender, who faces increased competition for games.

“Inter Milan are desperate to bring in a new centre-back at the end of the season,” the paper explains.

“Milan Skriniar, who has been stripped of the captaincy, has agreed a pre-contract arrangement to join Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

“And so Simone Inzaghi is scouting for a defender to replace the departing Slovakian.

“The Blues ace, 23, has progressed through the academy to become a first-team regular.”

Zaniolo set for Roma exit

After falling out with the Roma hierarchy during the January transfer window, it appears that the 23-year-old will leave to join Turkey’s Galatasaray rather than look to patch things up with the Serie A side.

“Zaniolo has been given the green light to pursue a move to Galatasaray, with the player set to fly to the Turkish giants on Tuesday from Milan,” states the Mail.

“Both Galatasaray and rivals Fenerbahce had reportedly offered the player an escape route from his Roma hell after being removed from Jose Mourinho’s squad list.

“And things went from bad to worse when the player suggested he could sue the Giallorossi for psychological pressure during the January window, having decided against joining Bournemouth.

“But now he could be set for an exit from the Serie A side, with the Italian side set to complete the paperwork as he makes his way to the Turkish capital in order to ensure a smooth transfer.”
