Man Utd dealt Eduardo Camavinga blow as Rennes ‘laugh’ at proposed transfer bid

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Eduardo Camavinga have been dashed after Rennes laughed at their initial transfer proposal, according to reports in France.

Camavinga, 18, is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in Ligue 1 after bursting onto the scene with his boyhood club in the 2019/20 season.

The central midfielder – who made his senior France debut last year – has just 12 months remaining on his contract with Rennes.

This has prompted intense speculation over his future, with domestic rivals Paris Saint-Germain linked with Camavinga while Real Madrid and Manchester United keep tabs on the situation from further afield.

Recent reports suggested the Red Devils were in pole position to sign the teenage prospect, with Rennes willing to accept a €30million (£25.7m) bid.

But a fresh update has rubbished this claim, as Get French Football News say they were met with laughter from a source at Rennes when they asked about the club accepting such an offer.

Meanwhile, newly-appointed Rennes boss Bruno Genesio admits a decision must be reached regarding Camavinga sooner rather than later.

The Ligue 1 club cannot risk losing their talent for free next summer, and Genesio appeared to hint at an exit during a press conference last week.

“We have already stressed several times that we cannot afford to remain in this situation concerning an international player like him,” said the Frenchman.

“It’s part of a career to have important decisions to make, he has a very important one [decision] to make for his future, and we at the club also have our interests to defend.

“I hope we find a solution that everyone is satisfied with.”

Will Manchester United sign Eduardo Camavinga this summer? Comment below.

Camavinga was left out of France’s squad for Euro 2020 but he is expected to link up with the Under-23 side which will travel to the Tokyo Olympic Games later this month.

Despite his snub by senior manager Didier Deschamps, the Brittany native drew lavish praise after making his first start and opening his France account in a 7-1 friendly victory over Ukraine last October.

“I need to manage him like [former boss] Julien Stephan is managing Eduardo at Rennes,” said Deschamps. “He will play every three days soon. He is a very young player with a lot of great skills and huge talent.

“I already selected him last month, I think he is good enough and that’s why he plays. He needs to show his skills on the pitch, even if we should not ask too much either.

“He is here. We all know the huge competition we have in the midfield but it’s not the others and him, it’s totally him among the others. I will need to make some choices.”
