Rangnick reflects on first win as Man Utd manager
Manchester United named Ralf Rangnick interim boss last week following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking and Michael Carrick’s three matches in temporary charge.
The German oversaw his first game as Red Devils manager against Crystal Palace on Sunday, with his side running out 1-0 winners at Old Trafford thanks to an effort from Fred.
Before the game, Rangnick spoke to the press as United boss for the first time where he discussed his plans to take the club forward, his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo, and wished Carrick all the best for the future.
But the 63-year-old also hinted he could remain Manchester United boss beyond the end of the season, per his contract, and manage the team for at least another campaign.

“They have been very clear about a six-and-a-half month role,” said Rangnick last Friday. “I may recommend they continue working with me for one year.”
As things stand, Rangnick is set to move upstairs at the end of the season and take on a consultancy role at Old Trafford.
He will then have a say in who replaces him in the hot seat at United.
Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to become Manchester United’s next permanent boss ahead of the 2022 season.
But an update from Lionel Messi’s camp may have United reconsidering their stance on the Argentine.
Pochettino impressed the world at Tottenham, taking them all the way to a Champions League final on a modest budget.
But he has struggled to incite magic in quite the same way at Paris Saint-Germain, coming second to Lille in the one-horse race that is the Ligue 1 title charge in his first season.
Pochettino is making up for it this season, with PSG 11 points clear of nearest rivals Rennes after just 17 games played.
But PSG are still far from the finished article and haven’t exactly been pulling up trees in the Champions League this campaign.
A cause for concern for Pochettino is the fact that Messi’s entourage is said to be questioning the Argentine’s tactical nouse.
According to L’Equipe, Messi’s people have taken aim at Pochettino in private and are apparently frustrated the manager hasn’t inspired his side to dominate world football.
Should questions continue to be asked of Pochettino, and the French giants fail to make a good showing of themselves in Europe, then the Argentine may become a less attractive proposition for United.
Rangnick was full of praise for his Red Devils following his inaugural win as boss.
“Overall, I’m happy. I’m positively surprised how many things they brought on the pitch, bearing in mind we had not even a full training session yesterday,” said Rangnick.
“We had a few conversations with players individually and with the group of players. The first half-hour was amazing I thought, with high speed, high intensity, high tempo.
“We were always on the front foot during the game and the only thing missing in that part of the game was missing scoring one, two or even three goals.
“Then from the 30th to the 45th minute, the tempo was a bit lower but we still had control and at half-time, I just told them to keep the tempo high, keep the intensity high, keep them in our half, keep them away from our own half and our own box.
“In the end, we scored a beautiful goal by Fred with his strong right foot. No, everything’s fine. In the last three minutes obviously, they took all the risks with a few corner kicks and free kicks but we defended everything well.”
