Wolves boss Nuno eyed by Tottenham supremo Daniel Levy amid Jose Mourinho uncertainty

Tottenham are keeping tabs on Nuno Espirito Santo as they eye him as a potential replacement for Jose Mourinho.

The Special One is under pressure to deliver Champions League football in north London and failure to do so could cost him his job.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is an admirer of the Wolves boss, who led his side to promotion in 2018 before securing successive seventh place finishes.

Nuno is under contract at Molineux until 2023 but has consistently been linked with moves away.

Wolves have dropped off this term and look set to finish in the bottom half, but Nuno’s reputation remains high.

Reports earlier this year claimed that Nuno had asked his agent Jorge Mendes – also Mourinho’s agent – to look for another club.

Levy has previously poached managers from Premier League rivals to great affect – Harry Redknapp and Mauricio Pochettino being two examples.

Nuno’s compensation package to leave Wolves is likely to cost around £8m.

Mourinho though could still salvage his season with a late charge and a Carabao Cup victory.

Tottenham lost 3-1 to Manchester United on Sunday despite leading at half-time, the latest in a long line of dropped points when leading.

They now find themselves six points off West Ham in fourth with seven games remaining.

A final at Wembley against Manchester City could still end a trophy drought that dates back to 2008, but European qualification still appears to be the number one priority.

Winning the Carabao Cup though would only be good enough for a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League – not regarded as a top level competition

Tottenham have also been linked with Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers and Julian Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig.
