Roy Keane’s withering criticism of Paul Pogba in response to Jose Mourinho comments

Manchester United icon Roy Keane tore into Paul Pogba in a damning assessment of his time at Old Trafford.

Keane was appearing on Sky Sports’ coverage of United’s game against Burnley on Sunday and was asked about Pogba’s recent verbal exchange with former boss Jose Mourinho.

The French World Cup-winning midfielder declared Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s predecessor would often go against his own players during his time at old Trafford.

He said: “Once I had a great relationship with Mourinho, everybody saw that, and the next day you don’t know what happened.”

Mourinho had a typically brutal response to his old charge’s comments, saying he couldn’t care less what the Frenchman had to say.

And when Keane was asked about the exchange during his work on Sky Sports, the former midfielder expressed that Pogba needed to perform on the pitch instead of continuing to make headlines off it.

He pointed at defeats to Leicester City in the FA Cup and Manchester City in the Carabao Cup as examples of games Pogba should have helped the team to win.

“I didn’t learn anything new from it, really,” Keane said.

“I think we’ve all discussed many times over the last few years, Paul Pogba is a talented player, absolutely, there’s no getting away from that. But I still feel he hasn’t done enough at Man United.

“He obviously fell out with Mourinho, that was a big problem at the club, but even the last few months, we’re saying he’s had a big influence, I wouldn’t agree with that.

“I think he’s playing OK and he’s a good player, but I still look in some of the big crunch games United have had this year, he hasn’t turned up.

“Not just his fault but they lost at Leicester, which was a big cup game for them, Man City at home, he didn’t perform that night.

“I think when Manchester United signed Pogba, it wasn’t to be playing in the Europa League or to be winning the League Cup.

“So I think Paul needs a bit of a reminder why he’s playing for Manchester United.

“They paid a big transfer fee, big wages for the likes of him for Man United to be competing and winning league titles, Champions Leagues.

“Even this year in the Champions League they got in a great position and they blew it and Paul Pogba is part of that problem because they’ve not got over the lines in the big games.

“We say he’s a big character and a big player, and OK he’s done brilliant with France, but for me he’s not done it on a consistent basis at Manchester United.”
