Manchester City confirm Sergio Aguero will leave this summer after 10 years at club

Manchester City have confirmed that Sergio Aguero will leave the club when his contract expires this summer.

The Argentinean is City’s all-time top goalscorer with 257 goals in 384 appearances for the club, and is forever associated with the goal that secured the club’s first ever Premier League title in the last seconds of the 2011/12 season, his first at City.

Aguero has won four Premier League titles, five League Cups and one FA Cup during his time at City, who he joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has revealed that the club plan to honour Aguero with a statues outside the Etihad Stadium, alongside those that have been commissioned of his former teammates David Silva and Vincent Kompany.

“His legend will be indelibly etched into the memories of everyone who loves the Club and maybe even in those who simply love football.

“This is not yet the moment for farewell words and speeches. There is still much to achieve in the remainder of the time we have with Sergio, and we look forward to his contributions to the challenges which lay ahead.

“In the meantime, it gives me great pleasure to announce that we will be commissioning an artist to create a statue of Sergio to live at the Etihad Stadium alongside the ones under construction for Vincent and David.

“And we look forward to the opportunity to bid Sergio a fitting farewell at the end of the season.”

City also hope that “thousands” of supporters will be able to attend their final Premier League match of the season against Everton as a celebration of Aguero’s career.
