MANCHESTER UNITED fans are furious with manager Erik ten Hag’s decision to have Christian Eriksen mark Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland.
Haaland has dominated United in the first half, which has seen City pick up a staggering 4-0 lead at the Etihad, as he scored a brace in just three minutes.
But it was the star striker’s opener on 34 minutes which sparked outrage among the Red Devils’ faithful when he jumped higher than everyone else to head Kevin De Bruyne’s corner kick.
United supporters were incensed with Ten Hag’s decision to have attacking midfielder Eriksen mark the Norway international in such a big match.
The Denmark international’s marking was so poor it allowed the 22-year-old to escape him with ease and notch his 12th Premier League goal.
One fan tweeted: “Eriksen marking Haaland has to be one of the most embarrassing decision to come from Man U.”
Another posted: “Eriksen was marking Haaland on his header because he’s taller than [Lisandro] Martinez lol.”
A third wrote: “Why the F is Eriksen the one marking F**king Haaland?”
This supporter stated: “Why is Eriksen marking Haaland in corners? What is Ten Hag smoking?”
And that one tweeted: “Eriksen marking Haaland on a corner…. What a great idea that is.”
United endured a miserable first half that also saw City star Phil Foden registering a brace.
To make matters even worse, Ten Hag lost Raphael Varane who was substituted just five minutes before half-time due to an ankle injury.
Varane has been replaced by Victor Lindelof who will team up with Martinez at centre-back in the second half.
