Gabriel Jesus ‘one of our best signings’ says Pep Guardiola after City victory

Manchester City broke the Premier League transfer record this summer, as they signed Jack Grealish for £100million from Aston Villa, but Sheikh Mansour could go one further next summer.

Despite the arrival of Grealish, City’s summer was overshadowed by who they didn’t sign, as their ongoing pursuit of Harry Kane was unsuccessful as the striker remained at Tottenham.

Although Pep Guardiola’s side is bursting with talent, they still are lacking a clinical goalscorer, and Kane was meant to be the perfect solution to the issue.

However, City owner Sheikh Mansour has given the green light on another move which would make Guardiola’s side unstoppable.

Sheikh Mansour has given the green light to sign Kylian Mbappe

According to the Transfer Window Podcast, Man City are ready to do all that it takes to bring Kylian Mbappe to the Etihad Stadium and rival Real Madrid for the Frenchman’s signature.

City are missing that final piece of the puzzle to lead the line with a plethora of world class talent in midfield, and Mansour has identified Mbappe as the key man to make his side unstoppable for years to come.

According to the transfer window podcast, Mansour has ‘mandated’ his club to enter the race and sign the PSG forward, who is in the final year of his contract in the French capital.

Journalist Ian McGarry said on the podcast: “We understand, from the very top, that is Sheikh Mansour, that there has been a mandate given to the club that they should pursue, and indeed, compete with Real Madrid, for the signature of Kylian Mbappe.

“We’re told that City — having been embarrassed by the Harry Kane debacle — want to make sure that they do get a top-class striker to augment their squad, and Mbappe is out of contract at the end of the season.”

It’s been reported that Mbappe has his heart set on Madrid, who are willing to wait until the summer to sign him for free, but McGarry said that City will do all that they can to ensure this doesn’t happen.

He added: “It is well known that he wants to play for Real Madrid, but it is also the case that he is tempted by playing in the Premier League. Manchester City would be prepared to sign him — and this is a direct piece of information — at any cost.

“Therefore, they are prepared to pay a transfer fee for the play in January, which Madrid will not do. They are also prepared to offer a bigger contract than Madrid next summer.”

Mbappe is a generational talent and his electric speed and finishing ability makes him almost impossible to handle, and with Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Grealish and Riyad Mahrez in behind, the Frenchman would be spoilt for choice with chances.

Should City pull off the deal, they would be an even more unstoppable force in the Premier League, and will be a nightmare for defenders.
