Man City sign Sandy MacIver on three-year deal from Everton

Manchester City have announced the signing of Everton goalkeeper Sandy MacIver on a three-year deal, marking their fourth new signing this summer.

A number of high profile players, such as Lucy Bronze and Georgia Stanway, had announced that they were leaving the club but City have gone on to sign MacIver, Deyna Castellanos, Laia Aleixandri and Mary Fowler.

MacIver, 23, has spent the last two-and-a-half years as the No. 1 goalkeeper at Everton and had a brief stint in City’s youth system before she went to the United States to play with Clemson Tigers.

“Manchester City as a club, the men’s and women’s, it’s a fantastic club. It’s an ambitious club and and it’s one that wins trophies and wants to win trophies and that’s probably in my career, where I want to be,” MacIver told ESPN.

“I had a bit of a taste of that in the FA Cup final with Everton but I mean City, the expectation to be in Cup finals each year and that’s something I want to be a part of.

“To win a Champions League, I think it’s everybody’s dream isn’t it? I would take any trophy. At the start of the season, the focus will be the Champions League qualification and I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself in terms of what comes later on.”

MacIver has represented England at various youth levels and got her first senior cap in a 6-0 friendly win over Northern Ireland in February 2021.

She was part of Hege Riise’s Team Great Britain squad that went to the Olympics but narrowly missed out on Sarina Wiegman’s squad for the European Championship in England this July.
