Despite City getting their Champions League campaign off to a winning start, Guardiola was left furious on the sidelines in the clash with Leipzig.

On more than one occasion Guardiola was visibly angry with his players, especially Grealish and Riyad Mahrez after City conceded.

In an interview with BT Sport, Grealish explained Guardiola’s anger was down to the defensive work of the pair, or lack thereo,f in the passages of play.

The £100 million man said: “It was obviously defensive work, I won’t go too much into it because he might want the same tactics for the weekend.

“That’s what the managers like, he’s always wanting more defensively and offensively, obviously he’s someone I’m going to listen to after everything he’s done.

“He’s just giving out useful information.”

Guardiola could be seen gesturing energetically on the sideline, and then he pulled Grealish to one side and can be seen explaining something to the Englishman after a goal went in.

On two of Leipzig’s three goals Grealish could be seen trailing late into the box behind play, and was dribbled past for the third.

However, on his Champions League debut the former Aston Villa man scored a brilliant individual effort, collecting the ball from deep on the left before running at the defence, cutting in and curling into the far corner.

Leipzig have had a rocky start to the season under new boss Jesse Marsch and despite finishing second last season currently languish in 12th place with one win in four games.

But they looked good against City in phases, especially in transition, where they exposed City’s flanks to get in behind their opponent’s very high line.

Guardiola said: “They are so good, they make four players in the build up to attract you behind the holding midfielders where there aren’t a lot of players, where the ball goes outside and they are so fast when they attack in behind.

“It’s not easy to control it but when you regain that ball there are many players in front of the ball and in the transition to make one or two passes in behind you have a chance to attack.”

The 6-3 thriller became the seventh highest scoring Champions League game of all time and marked Guardiola’s 300th match in charge of Man City, of which he’s won 218.
