Riqui Puig has pointed to Quique Setien as the coach who has helped him improve the most at Barcelona since his emergence on the scene.
Asked to choose between Ronald Koeman, Pep Guardiola and Setien, Puig picked the latter.
“I think that because of the way he understands football and how he treated me, [I’d choose] Setien,” Puig said during an MIC Camp event.
“He was very close to me, he helped me a lot and I learned a lot from him.”
One of the participants asked Puig where he would like to play in the event he departs Barcelona and the 21-year-old midfielder picked the team coached by his compatriot, Guardiola.
“Because of the style of play and because they have a coach who understands football like me, [I’d choose] Manchester City,” replied Puig.
“But at the moment I am great at Barcelona and I have no plans to leave.”
Puig went on hail the qualities of Barcelona starlet Pedri, and revealed that he was surprised by his teammate’s displays this season.
“[Pedri] is the player who has surprised me the most this season because of his youth, for all the minutes he has played and how he has played on the field,” noted Puig.
“He is showing the quality that he has and I am convinced that he can give the club a lot of joy.”
