Ederson: Let’s beat Real Madrid to help bring Ancelotti to Brazil

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson shared his thoughts on who could be Brazil’s new head coach during a news conference this Tuesday ahead of friendly match against Morocco in Tangier next Saturday.

He revealed he chatted with current and former Real Madrid players such as Vini Jr. and Casemiro to talk about Carlo Ancelotti, amid the speculations that he is the preferred candidate by Brazil FA president to take over the helms of the five-time World Champions.

“I was talking with Casemiro, with Vini (Jr.) and with (Eder) Militao about the big possibility of him (Carlo Ancelotti) coming so…let’s go after this result (of Manchester City beating Real Madrid in an alleged UCL semifinal) so he can come as soon as possible (laughs). What I have been told about him is that he’s an outstanding coach, that everybody in the group likes him. And he has a winning career, just check his resume. We’ll see soon if he will be here or not.”

Ederson, himself, also speculated about what would have been if his club coach, Pep Guardiola, was able to take over Brazil.

“I talked to him, joked with him, but he said that it was not a possibility, because he has a contract with Manchester City – and he just renewed for two more seasons. He told me that there was no chance at all (to become Brazil head coach). Of course, we are waiting to have the new coach announced as soon as possible, because I am anxious as well. There are many speculations, whether it will be a Brazilian or a foreign coach. So, we are anxious as well.”

On Alisson not making the list for the friendly

“Well, the first time I saw the list it was awkward to me. But it’s a decision for the coach, his choices. I thought he would be on the list, but he wasn’t. I don’t know either why he is not here, if it is to give opportunities to younger players. We must give our best because, in the national team, every day a great player shows up with skills and commitment (to stay).”
