The ex- Liverpool and Manchester United striker was one of countless UK citizens affected by Storm Arwen, which has caused chaos and led to multiple fatalities.

Winds have reached almost 100 miles per-hour, tragically leading to three deaths.

Owen, however, was less affected by the torrential weather and was able to leave his home by Saturday morning after a team of people arrived at his property to clear the access route.

The former England hero had tweeted on Friday: “Looks like I won’t be going anywhere for a while.”

Less than 12 hours later, Owen declared: “We are free. What a team.”

The grateful 41-year-old added images of the team clearing his road of the broken trees.

One follower replied to his original tweet by making light of the situation, writing: “It didn’t fall down.

“It listened to some of your commentary and laid down for a sleep.”

A rare red warning for wind had been issued by the Met Office on Friday across the east coast of Scotland and north-east England.

The highest speeds of wind were the 98mph recorded at Brizlee Wood in Northumberland.

In an addition to the deaths, 140,000 homes have been left without power and around 120 lorries were stuck in snow on the M62.

Sport was affected on Saturday, as Tranmere Rovers ‘ home match against Stevenage was postponed after the roof of main stand at Prenton Park was blown off.

“Damage from Storm Arwen has resulted in a small section of the main stand roof being blown off and a significant amount of roof signage and guttering has been blown down,” a statement read.

“The (safety advisory group) have advised that it is not safe to proceed with the game until the roof has been properly inspected. Whilst this is a big disappointment, the safety of fans is of course everyone’s primary concern.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

Bangor’s card of seven horse races was also called off, with the course having suffered damage overnight.

The clerk of the course, Andrew Morris, revealed: “We’ve had no power since around 2am and the latest update is we won’t get power back to the site until around 4pm, so that is obviously one factor.

“The second factor is there’s been damage to some of the public areas and they’re deemed to be unsafe.

“It’s not long-term damage, it’s just with the timescale we had this morning and the wind being as strong as it was, it was an easy decision on safety grounds.”
