Liverpool players produced a classy tribute to nine-year-old Jordan Banks, who tragically died earlier this week, by wearing a shirt with his name on prior to their game against Manchester United.
Young Jordan, described as an “extraordinary” schoolboy, tragically died earlier this week after being struck by lightning while playing football.
The Blackpool youngster was regarded as a local hero, and had raised £3,000 for a mental health charity in honour of his late uncle, who died from suicide in 2019.
Jordan, a Liverpool fan, was struck by lightning while taking part in a football session on Wednesday morning, and passed away shortly after.
He was described by his coach as a ‘mini [James] Milner’, and had earned a video message from the Liverpool vice-captain after running 30 miles in ten days to raise money for charity.
And in Liverpool’s first game after the tragedy, they paid tribute to him in a classy manner.
Players wore warm-up tops bearing his name and Milner’s number seven on the back.

Jordan’s family had requested the number seven be printed on the back of the shirts due to his admiration for Milner.
The club tweeted: “You’ll Never Walk Alone, Jordan Banks ❤️
“Nicknamed ‘mini-Milner’ by his coaches, Jordan was a brilliant person, as well as a passionate footballer.
“We’re all thinking of his loved ones tonight.”
A GoFundMe page was set up in Jordan’s honour with the hope of raising £3,000 to go towards funeral costs and his family.
At the time of kick-off at Old Trafford, the fundraising page had raised £70,000.
