Wales dealt huge injury blow as Aaron Ramsey is ruled out of upcoming World Cup qualifiers… after he was called up to the national team against Juventus’ wishes despite thigh issue
- Juventus had thought Aaron Ramsey would be out for a week with thigh injury
- Ramsey has now been ruled out of Wales’ two upcoming World Cup qualifiers
- Juventus, meanwhile, suffered an embarrassing defeat by Benevento on Sunday
Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey will miss Wales’ 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Belgium and Czech Republic this month due to injury, the Welsh FA confirmed on Sunday.
Ramsey was named in the squad last week despite concerns about a thigh injury he picked up when playing for Juventus. The Italian champions had earlier said the 30-year-old had sustained a ‘low-grade lesion’ in his left thigh.
Sportsmail reported on Thursday night that Juve were alarmed at his call-up, which came despite him missing their previous game – and their diagnosis was that he would be out for at least the next week.

Wales have now been dealt a blow, with the influential midfielder officially ruled out
Wales are scheduled to travel to Belgium for a qualifier on Wednesday before playing a friendly against Mexico on Saturday in Cardiff. They host Czech Republic in a qualifier on March 30.
Assistant coach Robert Page will lead Wales in the absence of Ryan Giggs, who has agreed to stay away following his arrest in November on suspicion of the assault of his on-off girlfriend following a disturbance at their home.
While Giggs has denied the allegations, he has agreed to keep a low profile while the investigation continues. He recently had his bail extended until May.
Ramsey, meanwhile, watched Juventus’ latest Serie A match from the stands and will have been disappointed to see his team-mates suffer an embarrassing defeat against minnows Benevento.
The 1-0 defeat leaves their hopes of securing a 10th straight Serie A title in tatters, as they now sit a massive 10 points off leaders Inter Milan.
