Nemanja Matic trolls Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo over Portugal no-goal

Nemanja Matic has mocked Portuguese duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes after they were denied a late win over Serbia.

The Manchester United midfielder has clearly seen the funny side of an incident that left Ronaldo raging.

He thought he’d scored a late winner to gift Portugal a 3-2 win in Belgrade.

The referee and his assistants thought differently though and didn’t award a goal, which replays show clearly crossed the line.

Ronaldo was furious and his subsequent rant earned him a yellow card.

Matic though has poke fun at the Juventus star and his United team-mate Fernandes following their near miss.

The Serbian has posted a picture on Instagram of the ball before it crossed the line.

He wrote: “Just on the line. Is it all clear now?” while also tagging both players.

Dutch referee Danny Makkelie has since come out an apologised for his error which cost Portugal the three points.

It has shone a light on the lack of VAR and goal line technology – which is not in use during international games.

But Portugal boss Fernando Santos has come out and called for the systems to be introduced to prevent these types of incidents.

He told A Bola : “The referee apologised and I have great respect for him, but it is not permissible that, in a competition like this, there is no VAR or goal-line technology.

“The ball was half a metre inside the goal, there was no obstacle between the goalkeeper and the goal line. It was very clear.

“He (Makkelie) apologised to me but this is not going to solve the problem.

“The referees make mistakes, they are human, but this is what VAR exists for.”
