Lukaku is on fire with Belgium

Romelu Lukaku is enjoying some of the best football of his career with both Inter and with the Belgian national side.

He has recently spoken about how he’s flourished under coach Roberto Martinez with Belgium.

“I’ve improved a lot, especially in the penalty area,” he said.

“At Everton, Roberto told me to watch videos of my own movement, but also of other strikers like Hugo Sanchez, Edinson Cavani or Chicharito.

“I used to work on my movement three times a week with the coaches to make me a better scorer.”

Lukaku played three seasons under the Spanish coach at the Toffees, scoring 61 goals in 126 games.

Martinez also spoke of Lukaku‘s drive to always be better and his love for the game.

“When you work with Rom, you can see that football is his life,” he said.

“He always wants to do more in training. Ever since he was young, he’s been a threat going forward.

“From the age of 21 to 23 he changed a lot and improved his movement in the area and his participation in the play, but without losing his effectiveness.

“He’s got everything you need to be the best No.9 in the world.”

Lukaku’s scoring record with Belgium

Lukaku‘s record with the national team was 17 goals in 51 games before Martinez arrived, but he has now scored 41 in 39 under the ex-Everton coach and he’s the fifth highest active international goal scorer among European sides.

After signing for Inter for 65 million euros in 2019, he’s continued to improve. He notched 34 goals last season and has 25 this campaign, firing his side to the top of the Italian league as the Nerazzurri look set to break Juventus‘ dominance of Serie A.
