Zinedine Zidane provides promising Eden Hazard update ahead of Real Madrid vs Liverpool

Zinedine Zidane is hopeful that Eden Hazard will be available for his Real Madrid side’s Champions League clash with Liverpool.

The Reds travel to the Spanish capital for the quarter-final tie, in a rematch of the 2018 final which Madrid won.

And Zidane may be boosted by the return of Hazard, who has seen his appearances limited by injuries this season.

A combination of muscle injuries and coronavirus has seen Hazard make just nine appearances in La Liga this term as Real look to defend their title.

In fact, Hazard has missed eight of Madrid’s last nine league matches, while his last outing in the Champions League came in a group stage win over Inter Milan in November.

The Belgian winger missed Madrid’s winning return from the international break against Eibar, but Zidane is optimistic that Hazard will recover from a hip injury in time for Liverpool’s visit.

“Hopefully we can get [Federico] Valverde and Hazard back,” Zidane said.

“We will see tomorrow and the day after. Today it was not possible but I hope that on Tuesday they can be with us.”

Zidane’s men are unbeaten in their last 11 games in all competitions, with their good form continuing against Eibar on Saturday.

Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema both scored as Los Blancos closed the gap on league leaders Atletico Madrid to three points.

And Zidane is hopeful his side can carry their good form into the visit of Jurgen Klopp’s side in two days’ time.

“We did very well, starting the game very well,” Zidane said. “Now we have to rest and prepare well. We know where we come from, we’ve suffered a lot this season and now it’s time to enjoy.

“We’re in a good moment, because the results are good. We defended the goal very well and we’re playing well, for us it’s important.”
