Tottenham Hotspur director of football Fabio Paratici has 30-month football ban extended worldwide by FIFA

Tottenham director of football Fabio Paratici has had his 30-month ban from football-related activities extended worldwide by FIFA.

The Italian was initially sanctioned, along with a number of officials, after his former club Juventus were found guilty of false accounting during his time at the club.

Paratici worked for Juve from 2010 to 2021 before joining the north London club, during which time the reported offences were said to have occurred.

In January of this year, Juventus were docked 15 points from their current Serie A campaign, while the 50-year-old was among those banned for 30 months from holding office in Italian football.

However, FIFA have now extended this ban, stating: “Fifa can confirm that following a request by the Italian FA (FIGC), the chairperson of Fifa disciplinary committee has decided to extend the sanctions imposed by FIGC on several football officials to have worldwide effect.”

Paratici and Juventus are appealing the sanctions.

The news comes days after Spurs parted ways with manager Antonio Conte with Paratici expected to be heading up the process of recruiting his replacement.

Just 24 hours before the FIFA announcement, Paratici conducted and interview with Tottenham’s media team in which he said Conte’s departure was the right decision.

“We know how difficult this season was for him personally, Gian Piero (Ventrone) died and (Gianluca) Vialli and then his surgery. The Club supported him a lot with it and everyone is close to each other but then we arrive in this mutual agreement, and I think the decision that we made was the right decision for everyone.”

On hiring a new manager, he added: “We have to be everyone focussed on the last part of the season. We do not speak about other coaches or follow the speculation in the media because it is just speculation.”
