TOTTENHAM’S European hopes suffered a major blow after they were beaten at home by Aston Villa.

The winger walloped them into the lead after just eight minutes – but they found themselves behind before the end of the half.

Sergio Reguilon sliced a cross past his own keeper and into the net to level the scores.

The defender was punished for some sloppy defending on 39 minutes when Ollie Watkins capitalised to put the visitors ahead.

And despite plenty of huffing and puffing after the restart, and the introduction of Gareth Bale off the bench, Spurs were unable to find a way back.

Now they face an anxious final day trip to Champions League-chasing Leicester as they try to seal a place in the top six.
