Roy Keane identifies Edinson Cavani’s Anthony Martial weakness despite Man Utd impact

Roy Keane was full of praise for Edinson Cavani after his goal for Manchester United but bemoaned the absence of one trait that Anthony Martial possesses.

It comes after the Red Devils beat Tottenham 3-1 in north London to consolidate a spot in the top four.

With Champions League a necessity next season at Old Trafford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks like he has achieved his goal.

United are now nine points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea with seven games to go but they did so in testing fashion.

Spurs went a goal up through Heung-min Son but the visitors struck back with a masterful display in the second-half.

United came from behind to beat Spurs 3-1

Fred got the equaliser before Cavani scored from Mason Greenwood’s brilliant cross as the youngster made sure of the result in injury-time to make it 3-1.

But it was the Uruguayan that grabbed Keane’s attention in the Sky Sports studio, who was full of praise after his goal.

Cavani was constantly on the prowl, causing havoc in the Spurs box with his movement and predatory instincts.

And he was rewarded for his efforts when he got on the end of a spectacular cross from Greenwood to plant a header past Hugo Lloris.

However, while Keane praised the former Paris Saint-Germain man’s performance – he did note that he lacked the mobility that Martial brings to the team.

Edinson Cavani scored the second goal for United

“His performance was outstanding,” the former United midfielder said after the game. “He was frustrated at halftime no doubt with the goal disallowed.

“But if you look at strikers around world football – obviously we’ve seen at his previous clubs – his movement is as good as any striker in the world, he is a clever, smart guy.

“Okay, he doesn’t stretch teams like (Anthony) Martial does or whatever, but his movement (and) his finishing is up there with the best in the world.”

United take on Granada next in the Europa League this Thursday in a strong position after scoring two away goals last week.
