Michael Carrick Refutes Suggestion Ralf Rangnick Picked Man Utd Team At Chelsea

After Manchester United’s draw with Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher found themselves engaged in a heated debate about the Red Devils’ ambition and expectation.

Fellow pundit Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was caught in the middle as Keane and Carragher went head-to-head on topics including Cristiano Ronaldo’s omission from the starting line-up and the club’s status as a contender for trophies.

It took a while for things to calm down in the Sky Sports studio, but former United defender Rio Ferdinand has opened the debate back up while taking aim at ex-Liverpool man Carragher.

Carragher has already hit back at his former England colleague, while bringing the conversation back to the topic of Ronaldo and Ferdinand’s part in the summer transfer.

“Ronaldo was never going to get United back to winning titles,” Keane said on Sunday, prompting Carragher to ask “What was the point in signing him then?”.

“If you finish 2nd and you then sign Ronaldo at 36, you’re not going to win the League in four years. If you sign someone at 36 it’s to win right now,” said the ex-Liverpool man.

Ferdinand picked up on the comments from the pundit, and decided to take aim at Carragher’s own lack of trophies.

“Carragher really shouldn’t be talking about winning leagues,” Ferdinand said in a tweeted clip from his Vibe with Five YouTube channel.

“He’s never done it, he don’t know what it means, he don’t know how to do it.

“He’s never navigated a team through it to that point to win a league, so I find it very difficult when he speaks with such conviction about winning leagues.”

Carragher’s best Premier League finishes came in 2001-02 and 2008-09, when Liverpool finished second, and Ferdinand’s Man Utd pipped them to the post in the latter.

The 43-year-old opted against continuing the title debate with Ferdinand, instead bringing things back to the subject of Ronaldo’s arrival at Old Trafford.

“Not talking titles but the deal for Ronaldo to Man Utd which you arranged,” he tweeted.

“No [Premier League titles] for me but Sky like my opinions!

“No [trophies] in your career without [Alex Ferguson] & when you stopped winning PL at MU you tried to move to Chelsea so please stop giving it the big MU fan one!”

Back in August, Ferdinand confirmed he had spoken with Ronaldo before the veteran returned to Old Trafford from Juventus.

“I rang him straight away, what’s going on? Tell me you’re lying,” Ferdinand said after hearing suggestions the Portugal forward might be joining Manchester City.

“Every type of ‘no, no, no’ in the conversation. I’m like all the fans, I’m exactly the same and we are all the same like that. Please tell me you’re not going there.”
