MN: Chelsea and Atalanta duo stand out in Milan’s pursuit of a new trequartista

One of the main issues facing Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara is finding the right man to replace Hakan Calhanoglu in the playmaker position.

After Calhanoglu chose not to renew his contract at Milan in favour of a move to city rivals Inter, it became imperative for the management to find a new functional attacking midfielder who would give head coach Stefano Pioli the same guarantees from a tactical point of view and if not even more.

MilanNews have given an update on Milan’s pursuit of a new trequartista, writing that Hakim Ziyech of Chelsea and Josip Ilicic of Atalanta are the most prominent names for the position at the moment.

However, they are not the only profiles being considered. James Rodriguez, who has been offered to the Rossoneri through his agent Jorge Mendes, would make a financial sacrifice to complete his tour of the major European leagues as Italy is the only country he has not yet played in out of the ‘top five’ leagues.
