McClaren’s Man Utd solution

Steve McClaren has clearly been keeping an eye on Manchester United this season – and it could pay dividends with the former England boss set to arrive as Erik ten Hag’s number two.

Ten Hag was McClaren’s assistant during his first time in command of FC Twente in 2008 and their roles could now be reversed with Ten Hag insisting he wants his former boss to join him at Old Trafford. And McClaren would arrive with a clear idea of what’s needed at the club.

Following United’s 4-1 to Man City at the Etihad in March, McClaren went in on the club’s underperforming stars as he said the players had “stopped running for each other”. And Ten Hag’s potential assistant also explained the club “needs to get the bad ones out of the dressing room”.
