West Ham United boss David Moyes has publicly informed both Manchester United and Chelsea they will have to fork out more than £100million to sign midfielder Declan Rice.

The Hammers manager also told the Premier League giants they had missed the boat on a “bargain” after failing to meet West Ham’s previous valuation of their star man.

After a stellar summer in which Rice shone for England at Euro 2020, the 22-year-old was touted with a switch to a number of the league’s biggest sides before eventually staying put in east London.

Chelsea are the side most often linked with a move for the midfielder given the connection between the player and the club – Rice formerly an academy player with the Blues.

However, previous reports have suggested that Chelsea actually harbour a lot of reluctance over the idea of spending big on a player who was released from their own academy.

The links to United stem from the Red Devils obvious need for a midfielder of Rice’s ilk, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men needing a defensive-minded midfielder for a number of seasons now.

The Red Devils boss is thought to be keen on securing a player who can operate as a lone presence defensively in the middle of the park, rather than requiring a partner like Fred and Scott McTominay.

However, Moyes has now informed both outfits they will have to muster up a figure north of £100m to pry Rice away from the London Stadium.

The West Ham boss did reveal that Rice was available to anyone willing to hit the £100m mark last summer, but conceded the club’s valuation of the midfielder has since increased further.

When pressed on whether he fears the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea coming in for Rice by Sky Sports, Moyes explained: “No I don’t, because there was a bargain to be got with Declan at £100m. That bargain’s now gone.

“So we have a lot of really good players at this football club. I think while you’re building and developing, people might always come and look at your players.

“But it’s good that they are because that tells us that they’re doing well.”

Rice is rumoured to be desperate to play Champions League football at some stage in his career, but has openly discussed his great relationship with his manager.

“The manager has just said to me to go out there and do what I do best and given me the confidence to go out there and perform,’ the vice-captain told the club website.

“To be fair, that’s all you can as for from a manager. I’m really lucky that I’ve got him as a manager and that we’ve got a really close relationship.

“Captaining West Ham in Europe is a really special moment every time, putting the armband on and walking out with thousands of us in the stadium.”
