Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount could become one of the club’s highest earners after reportedly being offered a bumper new deal to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Todd Boehly’s purchase of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich has now been approved by the Premier League and the new Blues hierarchy look set to hand 23-year-old Mount a major new deal that would see him more than double his current wages.

Mount currently earns around £80,000 a week, despite winning the club’s player of the year award in each of the last two seasons, but the i report Chelsea are keen to both extend his current contract and give him a significant wage increase as they aim to tie down one of their biggest stars.

It also claims that Mount is keen to prolong his career at Stamford Bridge, having first joined the Blues as a six-year-old. Since being handed his debut by Frank Lampard in 2019, Mount has played 160 times for Chelsea, scoring 30 goals and winning the Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup in the past 12 months.

According to the report, his contract offer, which will be officially made when the takeover is completed due to the current sanctions on Chelsea, would be worth over double his current salary.

Data from Sportrac claims that Mount currently earns £88,462 a week, making him the 17 th highest earner of the 2021/22 season’s squad. However, a hike of more than double his salary would move him into the top five earners of players at the club next season.

Signed for a club record fee from Inter Milan last summer, striker Romelu Lukaku is reportedly the highest earner at the club with a contract paying the Belgian £325,000 a week. Next on the list is 2018 World Cup-winning midfielder N’Golo Kante, who is reportedly earning £290,000 a week, closely followed by forward Timo Werner (£272,000).

Also in the current top five are Saul Niguez (£198,269) and Ben Chilwell (£190,000), although Saul is only on loan this season from Atletico Madrid and it is unlikely that the Spaniard will stay beyond the summer.
