Tuchel breaks Saul promise

Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sport Witness ) have reported that Tuchel offered assurances to the Saul Niguez before he joined the Blues on loan from Atletico Madrid.

Saul has failed to show his best for the European champions so far and was substituted at half time in the midweek win over Watford.

According to the report, Tuchel “promised him prominence” in terms of playing in a central midfield berth. The Chelsea manager said recently Saul could provide cover in the left wing-back position following the injury to Ben Chilwell.

Mundo Deportivo say the comments about playing out of position are the “worst possible news” for the Spain international.

Saul is yet to show his best in Chelsea colours.

Speaking to BT Sport (h/t Metro ), Cole said the 37-year-old has done enough to earn the extension.

“There’s no reason why he shouldn’t be given another one-year deal because he’s been outstanding,” he said.

“When he plays in the centre of a three, having the system where the wing-backs are high, he has so many options and when you’ve got a player with a range of passing like Thiago Silva he’s going to look unbelievable.”

Competition for Tchouameni

According to The Athletic (h/t Football.London ), there is a “lot more competition” for reported Chelsea target Aurelien Tchouameni.

The Monaco midfielder has excelled for his club in recent weeks and his performances for France this season proved he is capable of shining on the biggest stage.

With injuries to N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, the Blues are looking a little light in central midfield positions at the moment. However, with Real Madrid, Juventus and Manchester United creditted with an interest in the player, signing him may be a big challenge.
