Chelsea could be forced into recalling Billy Gilmour from Norwich loan transfer over lack of playing time

CHELSEA might need to recall Billy Gilmour in January after Norwich boss Daniel Farke warned his job was not to ‘develop’ the axed loanee.

Scotland midfielder Gilmour has been an unused sub for bottom side Norwich’s last three Premier League games.

And Farke insisted the 20-year-old must overcome such tough challenges if he hoped to become the superstar many have predicted he will.

Should Gilmour fail to play more regularly then Chelsea could take him back midway through his scheduled season-long stay at the promoted Canaries.

The former Rangers trainee shone when given the chance for the Blues last term.

So it would be an unexpected stutter in his career should his Norwich struggle continue.

But German Farke said: “There is no pressure (to play Gilmour).

“We are not here to develop players for other clubs, we are here to win points for this club.

“They want to be Manchester United, Chelsea or Tottenham players one day, so they need to face a challenge and step up to it.”

Gilmour was dropped after Norwich followed up a 3-1 Prem loss to Watford with a 3-0 Carabao Cup exit against much-weakened Liverpool – both matches at Carrow Road.

Gilmour was stuck on the bench for a 2-0 loss at Everton on September 25.

And he remained there for steadier 0-0 draws with Burnley and at home to Brighton on Saturday.
